Mammary epithelial cells are specialized epithelial cells that form the ducts and lobules of breast tissue. They are responsible for secretion, barrier maintenance, tissue remodeling, and communication with surrounding stromal and immune cells. These cells create the structural and functional framework of the mammary gland and undergo dynamic changes throughout life in response to developmental, reproductive, and hormonal signals.

Mammary epithelial cells are organized into highly structured glandular networks. Luminal epithelial cells line the interior of ducts and secretory structures, while surrounding myoepithelial cells provide structural support and contractile function.
